Workshop on neural networks 2018

28th  Italian Workshop on Neural Networks WIRN 2018

WIRN 2017 is sponsored by the Italian Society of Neural Networks (SIREN
in co‐operation with the International Institute for Advanced Scientific Studies (IIASS

The Italian Workshop on Neural Networks (WIRN) is the annual conference of the Italian Society of Neural Networks (SIREN). The conference is organized, since 1989, in co-operation with the International Institute for Advanced Scientific Studies (IIASS) of Vietri S/M (Italy), and is a traditional event devoted to the discussion of novelties and innovations related to field of Artificial Neural Networks. In recent years, it also became a multidisciplinary forum on psychological and cognitive theories for modelling human behaviours. The 28th Edition of the Italian Workshop on Neural Networks (WIRN 2018) will be held at the IIASS of Vietri sul Mare, near Salerno, Italy.

Prospective authors are invited to contribute high quality papers in the topic areas listed below. Contributions should be high quality, original and not published elsewhere. Papers will be reviewed by the Program Committee, and may be accepted for oral or poster presentation. All accepted contributions will be published in a special volume printed by Springer and indexed by SCOPUS. Authors will be limited to one paper per registration. Please visit the Springer web site for the paper format: ( Manuscripts should not exceed the limit of 8-10 pages. The submission procedure can be made through Easy Chair:

Since the very beginning, artificial intelligence has been influenced by medicine, and in the same time has impacted on it very strongly. For instance, in the automatic diagnosis, as a help for doctors’ decisions, or as a tool for improving patients’ health or for biomedical signal processing and brain modelling. Neural networks and neural or statistical pattern recognition are ever increasingly important methods in this field. Also, modeling and pattern recognition help in understanding the mechanisms of diseases, like cancer. At this aim, algorithms in data mining and big data are of utmost importance.

This special session aims to illustrate the state of the art and the perspectives of the most recent techniques, both neural, as deep learning, and not, with a special stress on biomedical image and signal processing, medical classification and diagnosis, and analysis of gene expression data. Papers in pattern recognition, especially as a support to medical diagnosis, are also welcome.
